At halftime of Monday night’s championship, Senator Jimmy Dillon and Councilmember At-Large Isaiah Thomas presented a grant check for $75,000 toward the Daniel E. Rumph II Foundation and Philly Legendary Summer Hoops.
Conversations between the senator and councilman have been extremely collaborative in helping to make the contribution – with backing from Senator Vincent Hughes and Gov. Josh Shapiro –as well as supporting initiatives in Philadelphia that use sports to keep kids safe and engaged.
“The Rumph Foundation and Legendary Summer Hoops Month are special because they blend passion for sports with critical health awareness and community support,” Dillon said. “The Foundation’s work in heart health and safety in sports is lifesaving. Philly Legendary Summer Hoops Month goes beyond just playing ball. It’s about mentorship, structure, and positive engagement for our youth. Both initiatives are great examples of the power of sports to educate, protect, and inspire our young people.”
“As elected officials from Philly, what we are doing to help young people at a city and state level is a top priority for Senator Dillon and myself,” Thomas added. “Collaboration is at the heart of what we do, and I am grateful to have partners in Harrisburg that share our vision and are willing to advocate for funding for crucial programs like this, that build community and increase our status as a sports city.”
