Championship Monday at the 20th annual Danny Rumph Classic was kicked off by the boys and girls showcase event. Local middle schoolers had the chance to compete in front of the crowd at the DAC before the championship between TBB and Blue Magic.
Girls Showcase Game
The evening started with a showdown in the girls’ showcase between Team Jessie Moses and Team Cire Worley. Team Jessie held the lead for nearly the entire 20 minutes, building a lead by as many as 10, but Team Cire made the game interesting in the final minutes.
Team Cire tied the game multiple times in the final two minutes, but could not get over the hump as Team Jessie found a clutch bucket every time. With 23 seconds left, Team Cire had a chance to win the game, but Team Jessie’s defense forced multiple loose balls and ultimately a turnover to seal the 27-26 win.

Boys Showcase Game
The final appetizer for championship Monday was the boys’ showcase game between Team Black and Team White. Neither team could gain an advantage during the 20 minutes and a game-tying three from Team Black tied the game at 37 and sent it to overtime.
The overtime period was sudden death, setting the stakes even higher. After multiple empty possessions on both sides due to intense defense, Team Black got free down the lane and finished a layup through contact to win 39-37.
