FOE defeated Rumph Center 110-87 in Monday’s championship game to win the Danny Rumph Classic title for the second time in three years.
A fiery shooting performance from Rumph Center kept the game close for the first seven minutes until FOE began to pull away with a 23-15 lead. Isaiah Wong was named tournament MVP in his Rumph debut.
Marcus Morris Sr. carried the load for his team, joining Wong as the primary scorers for FOE in the first half. He gave their team as much as a 10-point lead at the midway point of the first half. A 360 slam from Wong gave FOE its largest lead of the half at 44-30.
The second half began with fireworks from Morris as he knocked down a three from the top of the key over a stumbling Samir Stewart.
Prior to the championship game, there were showcases for both the boys and girls middle schoolers that shined a light on the upcoming stars in the Philly hoops scene. Fans filed in before the night’s headliner and got a peak at the future of the tournament.
