Day one of the Pro-Am Basketball Classic tips off Thursday evening from King Drew Magnet High School in Los Angeles. Team Danny Rumph Classic will square off with Miami Pro League at 8 p.m. (PST) in the final game of the night.
The Philadelphia delegation plays AEBL on Saturday at 2:30. A Sunday matinee at 3:40 sets the stage for the championship game concluding the first of its kind tournament.
Before the action gets underway, meet the roster and coaching staff representing the Rumph Classic.
Wali Hepburn, originally from South Philly and a Neumann-Goretti graduate, helped lead Rex 6 to a Rumph championship in the team’s debut year.
Shannon Givens, played at ANC before transferring to the Fels School for his senior season. The younger Givens brother and defensive stalwart played at Drexel and West Chester, now representing Team Rumph Center.
Samme Givens, went from Academy of the New Church to Drexel to enjoying a lengthy overseas career. He’s representing Team Rumph Center.
Nazeer Bostick, a South Philly native who graduated from Roman Catholic. He played a key role in Rex 6 capturing its first Rumph championship last summer.
Mo Watson, the Philly Public League’s second all-time leading scorer from Boys’ Latin is another representative of Team Rumph Center.
Markus Kennedy, a Philly native who played at Villanova then SMU. Kennedy has long been a member of Team FOE.
Brandon Austin, played his high school ball at Imhotep Charter and regularly plays for Blue Magic.
Rodney Green, who led Prep Charter to its first-ever Pennsylvania Class 4A State Championship before playing his college ball at La Salle. Green plays for FOE in the Rumph Classic.
Rich Granberry, a two-time State Champion in his time at Chester. He has played with Team Chester in the Rumph Classic.
Sharif Bray, is one of the co-founders of the Rumph Classic and one of Rumph’s childhood best friends. He played at Cheyney University by way of Central High School. Bray famously buried a game winner in the 2011 Rumph Classic Championship.
Chuck Ellis (Coach), who regularly coaches Team Chuck Ellis Workouts. In addition to being on Holy Family’s coaching staff, Ellis makes an impact in the community training local players from high school all the way up to the NBA.
Sharif Hanford (Coach), is one of the co-founders of the Rumph Classic, one of Rumph’s childhood best friends, and coach of Team Rumph Center. His involvement in the growth of the Pro-Am has been paramount.
Scoop Jardine (Coach), a South Philly native who played at Neumann-Goretti and Syracuse. He’s considered the heart of Team Rex 6’s championship squad.
