The defending Rumph Classic champions Team Rex6 fell to 1-1 after dropping the night’s final game to Team Rumph Center, 81-77. Rumph Center advanced to 2-0 and will play tomorrow along with Rex6.
Rumph Center was up big early on but led by an electric performance by 2021 MVP Wali Hepburn, Rex6 took a two-point lead heading into the half. Rumph Center bounced back, though, and closed out the win by knocking down free throws at the end of the fourth quarter.
Rumph Center was led by a 30-point, seven-rebound, three-steal performance from Player of the Game Alize Johnson. Johnson, who is from Williamsport, most recently played in the NBA for the New Orleans Pelicans. 2018 Rumph Classic MVP and Boys’ Latin alumni Mo Watson scored 21 points and former Drexel and West Chester guard Shannon Givens had 14 points.
Hepburn, a Neumann-Goretti graduate, finished with 21 points. Quade Green, also a Numann-Goretti alumni, had 15 points and Biggie Minnis and Jamir Hanner, who played some high school ball at South Philadelphia High School, had 14 points each.
