After surviving elimination in Saturday’s opener thanks to 22-and-21-point performances by Marcus and Markieff Morris respectively, Team Family Over Everything played in Saturday’s final game, beating Team Rex6 88-78 to advance to Sunday’s semifinal against Rumph Center. The winner of Sunday’s matchup will play Team Blue Magic in Monday night’s championship game.
F.O.E.’s Kansas trio from Game 1 weren’t in Tom Gola arena for Game 4. Without them, Jay Nixon and former two-time American Athletic Conference Sixth Man of the Year Markus Kennedy, who won Player of the Game, stepped up to carry the load for their team that had three new faces.
F.O.E. started off slow before Kennedy and Nixon realized they had to carry the load. Nixon was passive and Kennedy exchanged words with Rex6’s bench, including a fan behind the bench calling him a bum during a pair of Kennedy free throws. Once the game entered its second quarter, F.O.E. controlled the pace and the scoreboard until the clock hit 0:00.
Rex6 got out in transition early in the game, running its way to a 24-14 first quarter lead. Once they were slowed down, F.O.E. took a 28-26 lead with 6 minutes and 41 seconds left in the first half, never trailing again throughout the game.
To put the nail in Rex6’s coffin, Nixon threw himself a self alley-oop for the game’s last bucket.
