Despite scoring 22 points and adding another Player of the Game to his belt, Team Family Over Everything’s Marcus Morris was not named Day Three’s Player of the Day. That distinction went to Blue Magic’s Scootie Randall.
The former Temple guard scored 10 points on his way to Player of the Game in Team Blue Magic’s 56-47 victory over Team Rumph Center. The win clinched Blue Magic’s spot in Monday’s championship as they await the winner Sunday’s semifinal between F.O.E. and Rumph Center.
Player of the Game was the least of Randall’s concerns, however, saying that he cared more about winning the game and about the cause of the Danny Rumph Classic.
“For me, it’s more about the win,” Randall said. “We had some new guys today so we just tried to be on the same page.”
Randall was a key piece in Saturday’s seesaw affair. Blue Magic trailed by one entering the second quarter but went into the half up six. However, Rumph Center started the second half on a 7-0 run, swaying momentum and the lead into its favor. Until the final two minutes, the teams traded buckets throughout the fourth quarter. Randall was able to command the show and help his team pull away into the championship round, earning the guard Saturday’s Player of the Day award.
