Night one of the 16th annual Danny Rumph classic was jam packed with high-level basketball and a star-studded cast of characters.
NBA Hall of Famer and Philadelphia 76ers legend Allen Iverson made an appearance for game two of the night to see Dallas Mavericks point guard Jalen Brunson with Team 8Eye going head-to-head with the reigning champs, Team Rumph Center.
Before that, Team Chuck Ellis Workouts and Team PFWorkouts battled right down to the final whistle. In a back-and-forth affair through the final frame, PFWorkouts came out on top, 65-64. Erik Copes led his team in the scoring column with 19 points — 17 of which came in the first half.
The game that followed saw Brunson help 8Eye jump out to a 21-point lead that was quickly erased thanks to a dominant performance from West Chester University product Shannon Givens.
In the night’s third contest it was Team Blue Magic that walked away victorious by having its way in the interior. Joe Ross’ squad didn’t bury a single three-pointer in the second half but closed out a 66-63 win.
Thursday’s nightcap, highlighted by the performances of Scoop Jardine and Jamir Hanner, ended in a 73-68 win for Rex 6 over Competitive Training Co.
Night one surely lived up to the hype of the first Danny Rumph tournament in two years.
Friday’s schedule kicks off with Chuck Ellis Workouts v. 8Eye at 6 p.m. followed by PF Workouts v. Rumph Center. The night wraps up with Blue Magic taking on Rex 6 then Born Leader Family v. CTC.
