The Friday night special of the Rumph Classic was headlined Lou Williams chasing history in the first game of the evening.
The 3-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year poured in an astounding 53 points, just 18 shy of the tournament record, 71 points, set by Rasheim Wright in 2008.
Williams was seemingly having his way all night en route to a 110-93 win for Team Chuck Ellis over Team 8Eye.
Former Creighton standout Maurice Watson, better known as one of the Philadelphia Public League’s all-time greats, finished with 20 points in an 81-69 victory for Team Rumph Center against Team PF Workouts.
Watson did much of the nitty-gritty work attacking the interior and setting up for others but it was his teammate Isaiah Gans who got the gym jumping with a monster second-half dunk.
Team Rex 6 joined Rumph Center as the only other undefeated team after game three. Quade Green and Nazir Bostick were big reasons why, grabbing a 65-59 win.
The night wrapped up with Competitive Training Company taking down Born Leader Family 71-63. DJ Rivera led all scorers in that one with a cool 30-point performance.
PF Workouts and CTC open up the day up at 1 p.m, followed by Chuck Ellis Workouts v. Blue Magic. Slated for 3 p.m. is Team Rumph Center and Rex 6. The final game of the afternoon, at 4 p.m., will be the winners of the first two contests.
