Aside from a Lou Williams 50 burger, there hasn’t been a clear, complete individual standout performance for all 40 minutes. That was until DJ Rivera put the tournament on notice, leading Competitive Training Co. to a win in the final elimination game of day 2.
DJ Rivera was simply an energizer bunny, poking steals away, getting easy fast breaks, and knifing through the defense to a tune of a game-high 30 points. CTC staved off a late comeback to secure a spot in the next round winning 71-63.
Both teams seemed a bit lackluster from the tip, especially for an elimination game. However, DJ Rivera set the tone for his teammates. The 32-year-old’s energy and scoring lit a fire under his 36-year-old teammate Sharif Bray, who would finish with 19.
The powers that be of the Rumph Classic made sure CTC would play another day. They’ll be taking on PF Workouts Saturday afternoon.
