While it was raining outside of the 18th annual Danny Rumph Classic championship, it was raining inside the building as Ahmad Gilbert poured in 20 points and six rebounds to help L.O.E capture their first Rumph Classic Championship over 8Eye 97-82.
Coming into The Rumph, no one expected the first-time participants to take home the championship. MC, Ghee Funny, admitted in the trophy presentation that even he didn’t expect them to make it this far.
Gilbert knew L.O.E.’s strong roots helped propel them to a championship.
“I’m with friends and family,” Gilbert said. “We did this as high school seniors so to run it back as adults was great.”
The Philadelphia native starred at Constitution High School before attending Minnesota and Rider over his college career.
Gilbert took his talents overseas to Ireland this past season where he averaged 32 points 12 rebounds and five assists.
Earlier today, Gilbert signed Al Hillah Basketball Club in Iraq.
