For the second time in his career, LA Clippers forward Marcus Morris has been named the MVP of the Danny Rumph Classic. Morris’ Team Family Over Everything defeated Scootie Randall and Team Blue Magic 117-111 to win the 2022 Danny Rumph Classic championship.
The twins played in their first Rumph tournament since 2018, normally bring guests with them, a routine Morris plans to continue. This year, that included former Kansas teammate and fifth pick in the 2012 NBA Draft Thomas Robinson, as well as Philadelphia 76ers shooting guards Isaiah Joe and Tyrese Maxey.
Morris said that he will be returning to The Rumph next summer looking to claim a fifth championship.
“Everybody that deals with the Rumph Foundation, it’s great to see them,” Morris said. “It’s always love.”
Morris had some incentive to win this year’s championship, saying his team “took it easy” the last go around. There has also been, as social media influencer and Rumph emcee Gheefunny pointed out during the game, some trash talk dating back to two summers ago during the quarantine period of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“There was a lot of chatter throughout the summer so we just let it all settle in,” Morris said. “It was our time to take it.”
However, the personal accolade of winning MVP doesn’t mean that much to Morris. Although it’s a good title to have for when he returns home every summer, there are more important things about The Rumph to the former Prep Charter star.
“It means more to have the people coming out and watch something positive,” Morris said about his MVP award. “I don’t really care who wins. I’m here for the people, I’m here for the fans, I’m here for Danny Rumph.”
Morris had 29 in Monday’s championship win.
